It really was almost amazingly simple...
So, I rescued two cats today. My late, unlamented next door neighbors bolted a week ago (apparently they were receiving stolen goods...and engaging in gang activities, along with the drug use and other inappropriate habits), and left three cats locked in the house.
The neighbor on the other side figured out how to let them out a couple of times, and she and I fed them a few times. She called animal protection on the neighbors on Friday.
fairyceltic wanted the little female because she's a tortie (lovely gold and grey). The male is a tabby/coon cross. They're both love starved...and probably somewhat food starved as well. The third cat disappeared and no one knows where she went...she was more than half feral. We were going to get them out today.
They adopted the household over the last couple of weeks, and got into the habit of hanging around me and wanting attention. Yesterday morning when I left for Eden Prairie, they were both inside next door. I checked. When I came home at about 10:30 last night, the male came running toward me, wanting to be petted. I petted him for a couple of minutes, and checked the door next door for the Animal Control citation. It was gone. And the little female was nowhere to be seen. So someone had gone into the house and thrown the cats outside. Bastards!
So this morning, I didn't see either of them, but the male ran out from under my car when I turned it on...so he slept under there last night. When I came home from work, he was curled up on the front porch and the little female came running around the corner of the other house. I invited them into the foyer, and then popped them into cat carriers. The female was very vocal and upset, the male much more philosophical...he just ate kibble as fast as I could push it through the bars.
I called
fairyceltic and she picked up the little female. I then took the male to the vet (I'd made an appointment this morning). He's healthy, no FELV, no FIV, no fleas, no ticks, no ear mites. His teeth are in good condition. He's probably about 9 mos old and unaltered. Not for long...that appointment is for Thursday. He's currently inhabiting the back room.
I'm more than half in love with him...and he's answered to the name Usna! No, really. :o) I'm saying that I'm fostering him until I can find a good home. No, really.
After all, Mpls does have an ordinance...only three cats to a household. And I do have three. Although R&D only have two. Two households in the building. 6 cats between them. Do you think it would fly?
My cats are unsure what to think at the moment...except that they don't like the back room being closed off.
We'll see. He's SO adorable. And, well, he's Usna. If you're wondering why the name, it's two-fold. The Occult Experience...Janet & Stewart Farrar...and, Laurell K. Hamilton's Merry Gentry books, specifically, Stroke of Midnight. *who's the predator here, birdie?* Need I say more?
