more yarnie stuff...
I've been crocheting. I have this urge to make stuff out of yarn for Yule gifts. :)
I've figured out the moebius cowl. I've made four. I don't much like the first one, because the yarn was icky. It was an acrylic yarn that I originally chose because it incorporated recycled plastic which appealed to my aesthetic. But I hated the texture while I was working with it. So I'm not counting that project. :)
But I'm liking the other three...they're made from Berroco Comfort yarn, which is a worsted weight super fine acrylic/nylon blend that feels wonderfully soft and bouncy. I've also decided I like bamboo hooks better than plastic (icky feel) or metal (cold). And I was lucky enough to find a decent collection of bamboo hooks on eBay for not a lot of money -- certainly less than if I bought them all separately.
This green/purple combo is done in single crochet and I made an intersecting ruffle. I won't be doing this kind of edging again, because it's a HUGE PITA, in fact it took longer to make the ruffle than it did to make the cowl itself. But it does look kinda cool. :)

The red/black cowl is done in half double crochet, which uses up a lot more yarn, but I like it. And I did a double ruffle -- black on one side and red on the other. I like this red, it's somewhere between crimson and scarlet.

This cowl is a royally/cobalty blue combined with steel blue/gray, once again done in half double crochet. There's also a simple single crochet edging done with both yarns together.

The pictures are really rather sucky...the cowls look much better in life.
I've started another cowl with a heathery gray yarn combined with a heathery gray/pink/purple variegated yarn. But when I'm done with this one, I think I'll try a couple of hats next.
