random thoughts

It's a whole new (secular) year, and I'm back at work. Damn! No life of leisure yet. :)

Well, it's been an interesting few weeks. I went to the dentist just before Christmas, and had not one, but two abcessed teeth. Damn! One's an upper wisdom tooth, and one's the third molar on the other side (why, oh why, couldn't it have been the fucking wisdom tooth?). So, the molar was pulled...and I'm SO not liking the whole missing tooth thing. I have to go back later this month and have the wisdom tooth pulled as well. Otherwise, he wants to do one of those deep, intense cleanings, and then says I should be good to go for some time to come...because NO cavities. But two teeth out. That really sucks.

I've been cleaning out stuff in the apartment, slowly but surely. It's all still very much a work in progress. But I AM seeing some progress. :)

I went to CA for a short visit with my parents over Christmas. It rained every day but one. That day just happened to be the one we went to see Cirque de Soleil. Corteo. It was really pretty amazing.

A word of advice. If you want to say something critical to your parents...ever...bite your tongue. Don't say it. Seriously. Count to a thousand if you have to. Paint the godsdamn ceiling beige. Walk out of the house. If you say something even slightly critical, it will come back to haunt you FOREVER. Once, years ago (I was young and stupid) when my back was against the wall (I think it may possibly have been around the time of my brother's funeral), and they'd hurt me for probably the 10,000th time, I told my mother that she hadn't been a spectacular mother. I was right. She was terrible. It wasn't that she didn't try, but she had no parenting skills, and I ended up being the mother most of the time. BUT, now whenever she gets drunk, I have to hear endlessly how they never meant to be bad parents (mind you, they drink EVERY night). So, trust me, life is easier if you never go beyond trivial chitchat with dysfunctional parents.

And now, I must be off to bed. Night all...
