Well, I took Odhinn to the vet on Friday, and it appears that he is significantly younger than I'd been led to believe. I'd THOUGHT he was younger than 3 months, but it seems that he's actually around 6 weeks old. Which means that he was barely weaned, and hasn't been eating nearly enough. Nor will he eat kitten food. I've tried and tried, but he won't touch the stuff.
So I got creative. He goes nuts for coconut oil. It's actually pretty good for people at least (it's used in infant formulas and for IV drips because it's easily digested). But if he sees me using it or drinking coconut milk, he tries to lick it off my lips. So I checked with the vet, and she thought it wouldn't hurt him. So I mix coconut oil into some milk replacement and mix THAT into his food. I also give him some between meals.
But he's slowly putting on weight and starting to thrive. He also had an upper respiratory infection that was causing the weeping eye. That's being treated and his eyes have cleared up.
Now the Little Bit is even feistier. He's been initiating stand-offs with both Merlin and Freya by hunting their tails, and has even won a couple of times. Merlin mostly ignores him until he's pushed too far. But Freya will ambush him when she feels like it, at which point Little Bit will run and try to hide under my skirt. Most of the time I'm just laughing so hard, I wouldn't be any use to him anyway.
T-10 days until I leave for Boston!
