Well, apart from a cat with his ass cemented shut, the week hasn't been horrible. After all, Usna was just introduced to the other cats last Saturday. I've survived much worse cat stuff. :)

He was *fixed* (or *broken* depending on your viewpoint) last Thurs. I brought him home on Friday and let him recuperate overnight before introducing the cats. Mind you, the vet gave me a sheet saying I should restrain the cat from overexerting himself for 7-10 days after the surgery. Excuse me? Restrain a cat? Hell, I got him into the back room Friday afternoon, and there was a fly. Need I say more? He was doing backflips trying to catch the damn thing. The surgery didn't slow him down at all.

So I opened the door on Saturday. At which point, all the cats realized they hated each other. Cats are so not pack animals. There was no "we must band together to get the interloper." Oh no, each cat hated ALL THE OTHER CATS that first day. However, no blood was shed; there was much hissing and spitting and a couple of skirmishes. During one of them I discovered that Usna has a battle cry...think high pitched *EEEEEEEEEE.* ROFL.

On Sunday, Merlin (aka Mr. Grumbly) decided that not only did he hate all the other cats, he also hated me...and showed his displeasure by taking huge dump on my bed, right where I sleep. *sigh* He's had a couple of other *accidents* since then, but nothing quite so obvious. Deep in his 19 year old heart, he still hates Odhinn and even Freyja, so bringing in another cat just exacerbated all that Siamese resentment.

By Sunday night, the three senior cats remembered that they didn't hate each other, but they did still hate the interloper. However, being cats, they were still very individualistic in their hatred.

Of course, Monday was the incident of the cemented ass.

By Tuesday, I caught Odhinn and Usna playing from time to time...until one Odhinn would remember that he hated Usna. And even Freyja and Merlin managed to share the bed with Usna without major histrionics.

Wednesday, Freyja actually played with Usna. Many fewer hissing incidents. Usna tried to play with Merlin...so not happening. Although I have to say that Usna has an amazing salmon leap...for a cat who about a third of the time misses his jumps onto the sink. ;)

By this morning things really do seem to be settling down. There are still the occasional cranky fits and hissing encounters, generally around meal times, but they're stopping and sniffing each other without incident.

Woo hoo! My nascent Fluffy Mini-Horde seems to be on its way to coalescing. After all, [livejournal.com profile] rhiastarr has her Golden Horde, I'm building a Fluffy Horde. :)

In other news, this week was Summer School start up. There were the usual traumas...but I got a compliment yesterday from the head of the 281 District that this year's Summer School start up was much better than last year's. I was in charge this year, but wasn't last year. So, go me!

And I'm at work today, since we've got a charter for the Back to the 50s Hot Rod show at the MN Fairgrounds. I'd rather be in bed, but a little overtime isn't a bad thing at all.
