This morning I opened a book that’s just been sitting on my shelf… When I opened to the back pages, I noticed a quote that I had cared enough to copy. It took me about an hour to remember where I’d copied it from, but the quote was still beautiful.
To the center of the world you have taken me
And showed the goodness and the beauty
And the strangeness
Of the greening earth, the only mother…
–Black Elk
A while later, I remember that last year when I visited my parents at Yule, my mother and I went down the peninsula to a little environmental-type museum just north of Palo Alto to meet a friend of hers who is a new docent there. They had dioramas of the local environments, a small botanical garden of native plants, an aviary, and a habitat area for some local fauna, as well as providing information and crafts for kids. Very kid friendly place. That’s where I copied this quote. Now, if only I could remember the museum’s name. :)
