It's just been ages since I've been on LJ. I inherited the job of scheduler at work and for most of August, September and the first part of October it pretty much consumed most of my time. I am so tired of people whining to me about how their kids can't be ready for a bus THAT COMES TO THEIR DOOR AND WAITS FOR TWO FUCKING MINUTES. Bugger 'em. And bugger my boss, who I'm pretty sure takes stupid pills before he comes to work every day. There was a two bus crash on Tuesday morning (the first snow of the season), and he wasn't going to send an ambulance. Hello? Two buses full of kids. Send the DAMN ambulance.

Yesterday I took a class in colorizing titanium. It was kinda cool...and my piece ended up with some great color. But I don't think titanium will be my "thing." Partly because it's all about the prep work. The actual heating takes less than 2 minutes. The other MILLION hours are all about sanding the metal. First you sand it with 400 grit until you think you've never done anything else in your life...and have little nicks on your fingers. THEN you sand it with 600 grit sandpaper for the rest of your life...and your fingers are bleeding. Finally, you start to polish...first with tripoli and then with rouge. But finally, after 3 lifetimes, maybe you have the right texture on the metal to actually get some color. Then you have to clean it...soap/water, acetone and then de-natured alcohol...and then heat it for about 45 seconds. And you have to stop before it gets to the color you WANT it to be, because it will continue to change until you cool it. I do have some patience, but not that much.

In other news, I seem to be morphing more and more into Geek Girl. Once I got over the angst about opening up the computer, it was easy. In the last two weeks, I've installed a USB 2 port card (so I could hook up my new external HD) and a RAM upgrade card in my computer tower. And both work! OK, so I installed the RAM card backwards the first time, but I didn't panic...I just tried it the OTHER way, and it worked. Perfectly. Who knew? I'm even eyeing the expansion slot for a new internal HD. ;)

I've made some progress on the ever-expanding transcription project. But every time I THINK I'm making serious progress, something new pops up, and I feel like it's just starting all over again. WAH!

Oy. Maybe I should check in more than once every three months, eh? But for now I'm thinking a nap sounds quite nice.
