I was going to write an upbeat little entry about the chairs leaving last night, and the space and freedom, blah...blah. And it would have worked.

Except. Then came the drive home from work today. And yet another thing to add to my list of DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME... after the glitter blue eyeshadow (it's a death color); after playing quarters with rum & coke (and later, sangria); after trying to stabilize bed spins (I think it was after the sangria quarters episode, yet another reason I don't drink) with the hand on the wall, opposite foot on floor trick...but from the top bunk; and finally fishtailing a school bus on an icy Portland Ave at 25 MPH (mercifully, there WAS no other traffic). So, today's entry is...having the hood of your car fly up and smack your windshield while going 65 on the interstate.

No, really. I was in the left lane, and my hood flew up and smacked the windshield, scaring the crap out of me (obviously). Since I have this tendency to deal with what's in front of me and NOT panic, I immediately took my foot OFF the accelerator, managed to hit the left turn signal, pull onto the left shoulder and then hit the blinkers. I got out managed to force the hood closed, checked to make sure there was no other damage, and then drove home (still on the interstate) telling myself I would panic later. Thank the Gods I didn't hit anyone, I'm not injured, and the windshield doesn't have an actual hole...it's just a huge spider's web of cracks. I made it home without further incident and then the adrenaline vanished. I'm not sure how I made it up the stairs. But...I've contacted the insurance company, made arrangements to replace the windshield tomorrow, and now have to figure out where to get the hood latch looked at. I'm going to tie the fucker down until I get it looked at, since this is not something I want to repeat.

The only thing that I can guess is that when I opened the hood a few days ago to check fluids, it didn't quite latch properly, but I'm not sure why it chose today to spring open.

My insides still feel like jelly.

And none of the things I was planning to do this afternoon got done. But I still have SPACE because of the lack of hulking chairs.
