FWIW, it took FIVE minutes yesterday. I walked in the door, and five minutes later was ready to strangle my boss. And I'd been off for two weeks.

Just for the record, most of the drivers made a point of telling me (a) they were GLAD I was back and (b) he was impossible while I was gone. Seemingly he went out of his way to alienate everybody. And not just drivers...the Minneapolis Dispatch people are none too happy with him either.

So it's not just me. :)

And today was a Tuesday...which for some reason has meant more trouble than Monday lately. And so I drove this afternoon, working from 5AM until 4PM. This makes for a tired little [livejournal.com profile] willowoak. Anyone know a surgeon who can remove a Protestant work ethic?

Happy Fat Tuesday everyone!  :)

For no apparent reason...since I'm obviously NOT Catholic.  But I always liked the idea of celebrating excess.

And so, my house wights have now taken an unopened bottle of Chardonnay. As most of you know, I don't drink...but I do keep some booze around for libations, and for cooking. Because, let's face it, sometimes a bit of wine adds just the right depth to a dish. Particularly one that's been done in the crock pot. Last fall, I bought a liter bottle each of Chardonnay and Shiraz with the intent of using it for cooking. The Shiraz has been opened and used a couple of times, but I'd never gotten around to using the white. Then tonight I decided to make corned beef and cabbage (Napa, thank you) in my slow cooker. My recipe calls for about a cup of white wine. And I can't find the bleeding bottle anywhere. I can hear them laughing at me. :) Luckily I was able to borrow some Pinot Grigio from my neighbors...the wine really makes this corned beef better than my father's (and that's saying something).

I don't eat corned beef very often, but once in a while it's a nice thing. And doing it in the crock pot is an even better thing.

Tomorrow evening, I'm going to do a Caribbean-influenced lamb recipe in the crock pot. I just have to find some Tamarind concentrate.

Mantra for the week, "the crock pot is my friend..."
