OK, so STILL no couch. It won't fit through the doors in the back...NEVER mind that I specifically asked the delivery guy on Friday if it WOULD fit because the back doors are rather narrower than the front. "Oh yes, there's plenty of room" I was told. Luckily, the guys today brought a tape and checked it out in advance. But still, no couch.
I am more frustrated than you can imagine. I finally find a couch that I actually love and can afford, and the damn thing won't fit through the access points to my apartment. *sigh* back to the drawing board.
/Edit:
So I went back to the store where I bought it, to see if there was another couch that I *might* be willing to purchase, only to discover that even though they are having a *Clearance Sale* the prices on the furniture available are actually the same, or even HIGHER than when I purchased the huge couch (turns out it was just a hair under 8 feet long). And nothing appeals to me -- it's a wasteland of overstuffed, pillowback furniture. So, we fill out the paperwork for the return -- it won't actually be credited to the account until tomorrow, when the sofa is back at the warehouse. So I'll only be out the delivery fee.
I stopped off at another furniture store on the way home, just to torture myself. I found a couch that would be a reasonable substitute. It's in the taupe-y color range, which is what I originally wanted. It's got a wood frame. It's got a simple two pillow back. It's 87 inches long (7.25 feet), so it should fit up the front stairs. But it's also $100 more than the couch I originally purchased (even on *sale*), and their delivery charge is $80. So I'm thinking about it.
I guess I'll start shopping again. I'm considering going to Depth of Field to look at the futon couches (they do make nice ones) -- but that will be a good deal more expensive. GAH!
The bright side is that the apartment looks positively spacious. The down side is that I have no seating for guests.
