Well, it's quarter to two...time's already switched back. I've just finished my first crochet project in about 30 years. I have been wanting a pair of fingerless gloves and came across a girly pattern that appealed to me. They're actually wristwarmers that bell out over the hand; the pattern is almost all half double crochet. I went to Depth of Field (local yarn emporium) and fell totally in love with a hand dyed merino worsted called Iris...it's in shades of mossy green, mossy brown, purple and bluey purple.
I had to start the damn things over about six times, because I kept trying to work in the round the way I'd work a flat piece. Then I had the AHA moment, and understood how to crochet in the round. I even modified the pattern a bit, partially by accident, but also because I wanted a slightly different look. I now have something that looks a bit like ruffled gauntlets. When I get the yarn ends woven in, I'll take some photos to post.
Like I need another hobby that involves tools and stashes. *sigh*
