Oof! I love this beret, but the pattern was a bear. I did quite a bit of frogging, because I'd use stitch markers and count, re-count and re-re-count and would still end up off on stitches at the end of a round. I mean, I know I totally suck at math, but this was just crazy. In the end, I did some fudging with creative increases and decreases in various rounds, but I think it still turned out OK.

This is how it's "supposed" to look:

Here's how mine actually looks (no model, just stuffed on a pillow):

Oh, and that's Freyja in the background. She'd just decided that she MUST roll around on the bed.

I was originally going to use an oak leaf and maybe an acorn as the embellishment, but I can't seem to figure out that oak leaf pattern. I'll try again, but in the meantime I made a sweetheart rose and leaf from the book Crochet Bouquet by Suzann Thompson. Here's a detail shot...although it is perhaps just a bit difficult to SEE the flower because it's made from the same yarn. mwa-ha-ha-ha!

And that itty bitty rose leaf was also a MAJOR PITA. I frogged that sucker at least three times before I "got" it. And it STILL doesn't look like the picture in the book. But I like it, and that's what's really important.
