There are times when I just shake my head about people's behaviors and insecurities. This morning is a case in point.

A parent calls me to check on her son's bus which he *says* never came. She says that this is the fifth time this has happened since the beginning of the school year, although this is the FIRST time she's called me.

She actually said to me "I'm a Doctor and I have a full time job." Like I care. I'm a dispatcher and I have a full time job too. BFD.

So I get hold of the driver, and he tells me what time he was at the stop, how long he waited, and MOST IMPORTANT, that he picked up a kid at that stop. So I tell the parent that he was there at *this* time and picked up a child. She actually said to me "He's lying." Pardon? I said, "Ma'am, I don't see how he could be lying, since he picked up a girl at that corner. But if you like, I will have the driver call me from that corner tomorrow and tell me how many kids he picks up."

After I said that, she started yelling at her son (a teenager) while still on the phone with me, and then HE starts yelling at her saying the driver is fucking lying, etc. It begins to appear to ME that this is more about her son, than about the driver missing a stop. But I talk to her a bit more, and say I will talk to the driver to try to get more information...and I will check that the driver has the correct pick-up and drop-off times, and will call her to confirm that information. She then spends a few minutes trying to tell me how important she is, and all the reasons why she can't be responsible for ensuring that her son gets to school (when HE is most likely blowing off the bus). BFD. Not my problem, nor do I care how *important* she is. I would go through the same procedure for anyone who called me saying the bus didn't come. But if a driver tells me they were there, and gives information to support that statement, then I'm not going to send the driver back. Nor will I send another driver to pick up the student, nor pay for a cab to get the kid to school. Sorry, at that point it's no longer my problem. If the driver legitimately missed the stop, I'll try to fix it.

But I DID speak to the driver, and I did double check the times, and I did call her to confirm the information so that her son will have every opportunity to catch the bus. I also called the school and spoke with the Transportation person and told her how I had handled the situation. We both agreed that it was most likely the son playing games.

"I'm a doctor and I have a full time job." *shakes head*
