So, unlike a number of people I know, I'm NOT doing a 50 book challenge this year. But I do still read a bit. And I've just finished a VERY interesting book. I'm still not quite sure how I came across it...I was doing one of my obsessive bibliography checks, I suppose, and I read a description of it on Amazon and thought "hmmmmm". So I checked with my local library and put a copy on hold. Support your local libraries, folks!

Anyway, the book is Glass Paper Beans by Leah Hager Cohen. It's a meditation and exploration of the nature and meaning of everyday objects. As pagans, we often talk about the interconnectedness of life. This writer took three everyday objects -- glass, paper and coffee beans -- and set out to explore what they are, where they came from, and even the hands that make them. She takes three people, a woodsworker, a glass factory employee, and a coffee grower as the symbols of those "hands" and tells their stories as well as weaving history, philosophy, spirituality and economics into her narrative. It's a fascinating journey. I recommend it.
